1920s Chelmer Classic Queenslander

Achieving the owner's dream of a big white classic 1920s house with lasting value was the goal of the homeowner. The Georgian Queenslander townhouse was designed for the entire family to live and play in with plenty of spaces for art, music, and entertaining.

Three previous rounds of alterations and additions had left this 1920s style Queenslander house with little connection between house and garden.

Three previous rounds of alterations and additions had left this 1920s style Queenslander house with little connection between house and garden.

The brief was to lift the house and move it forward on the block to accommodate a tennis court and create a new living area downstairs that flows outdoors to the classic garden of the 1920s Queenslander style house, creating spacious open verandahs upstairs. The owners wanted to retain a focus on an internal stairwell to unify formal space arrangements. They applied carefully chosen colour and classic Queenslander-style house materials throughout the renovated home. This seamlessly joined the existing areas with the new parts of the home.
