The Brisbane Spring Home Show is right around the corner and we are gearing up for a busy and exciting two days at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. As we have been to a fair few of these in our time, we thought we would give our two cents about this fantastic exhibition. When you enter the doors of the Home Show, you may find yourself overwhelmed by the number of stalls and professionals keen for a chat. In our Guide to the Brisbane Home Show, we will show you the ins and outs of when to chat to an architect, and when to consider chatting to other trades.
When to chat with other tradespeople at the Brisbane Home Show
The Brisbane Home Show is all about who YOU want to talk with. It’s a fantastic opportunity for you to gauge your goals and talk to the professionals. We would love to chat to you about anything and everything, but sometimes it’s best to have an idea of who you want to see before entering those doors. You’ve got to make the most out of these days!
Rows upon rows of stalls, lined with the best players in the game: the specialists. If you’re after a renovated kitchen with marble benchtops, a new deck out the back, or a custom door, these are your people. Specialist tradespeople are the best in the business, and the Home Show is the perfect place to have a chat. Not only are they readily available for a face-to-face conversation, they also have excellent deals, exclusively for Home Show visitors. Feel free to come to PlaceMate Architects and to chat about these specific aspects of your home, as we can recommend some fantastic companies.
New home builds
If you are looking to build a new home and are happy to “buy one off the shelf” with a set design plan, we suggest you chat to the project home builders. This is a very cost-effective way of building your new home as the designs are spread across multiple houses.
Custom home builds
Building a custom home is a bit of a grey area so here’s the low down. When going through a builder for your home design, they will either have an in-house designer or will outsource to one. Either way, the designer is designing on behalf of the builder. Once you are locked in with a builder and their designer, it’s hard to get an alternative quote. But this is exactly what the Home Show is for. Talking to professionals, asking ALL of the questions, and gauging whether you want to go through a builder or an architect. You’ve got the dreams and there are many options to help you get there.
When to chat with an architect at the Brisbane Home Show
We’ll be honest with you – hiring an architect is not cheap. But it is well worth the investment. Architects come into the picture when things get a little too complex. There could be town planning issues, complicated renovations and questions that can’t be solved with a standard answer.
Now, you may be asking, “well, which architect should I speak with at the Home Show?”. This is completely up to you. We would recommend you speak to as many as you can get to. At the end of the day, it’s about who you resonate with the most. Sure, cost may be a big factor in who you choose to go with, but in the big picture, it doesn’t make much of a difference. The architectural aspect of renovation focusses in at the start of the process, and fees will start to make more of an impact by the middle and end.
If you are thinking about renovating or anything to do with your home, we highly recommend you make the time to visit the Brisbane Home Show. The Home Show will be running from Friday 10 – Sunday 12 of September. Make sure to come say hello to us at booth D05 and chat about all things renovation.
